The Millennium Gate Museum is one of Atlanta’s most unique attractions. The sprawling 12,000 square foot space is home to over 200 historic artifacts, including the world’s largest collection of Coca-Cola bottles. The museum features the work of Georgia’s Declaration of Independence signer Lyman Hall. It is also the home of Coca-Cola magnate Thomas K. Glenn, who was also president of the Atlantic Steel and Trust Company of Georgia at the same time. It is located at 395 17th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30363.
The Millennium Gate is a replica of Rome’s Arch of Titus, a classical arch that seems to invite visitors in. This museum honors the peaceful accomplishments of the Western world and the United States, and has special tributes to the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia. There are three permanent exhibits in the museum, and three period rooms. Visiting the Millennium Gate is an opportunity to appreciate Atlanta’s history while looking forward.
The Georgia Pioneer Gallery showcases the history of the city, starting with Native American history and Spanish exploration of the coast. The exhibit also features photographs of some of Atlanta’s earliest pioneering families, including Candler, Adair, and Woodruff. The museum is also home to a number of historical relics from the Native Indian, Spanish, British Colonial, and American Revolutionary eras. The Georgia history museum also hosts regular lectures by historians, and the museum is free to attend.
Visitors can also take in another exhibit while visiting the Millennium Gate Museum, Transcending Vision: American Impressionism 1870-1940. This exhibit is on loan from the Bank of America and is on display through December 6, 2009.
